MIND. [1]

Low spirits alternating with cheerful mood; sleepless; sensation of a ball rising from stomach to throat. ~ Amenorrhea. ~ Hysteria.
Inability to fix mind on one subject for any length of time.
A feeling like homesickness.

SENSORIUM. [2]

Dizzy feeling while walking in open air like a wave from occiput to sinciput; he feels as if he would pitch forward; nausea.

INNER HEAD. [3]

Dull stupefying headache with fullness of head, as from catarrh.

OUTER HEAD. [4]

Sharp lancinating in left temple, upper part of left eye and inside of left lower jaw.
Sharp stitching pains from within outward in forehead; sharp shooting pains over and in eyes; catarrh; suppressed secretion.
Headache preceding leucorrhea and irritation of bladder.
Forehead hot; sweaty in evening.

SIGHT AND EYES. [5]

Sharp pains from within outward, left eye; lachrymation in open air.
Catarrhal ophthalmia from suppressed secretions.

SMELL AND NOSE. [7]

Coryza, at first dull headache, dryness of nose and sneezing, burning and fullness in nostrils, later secretion of copious mucus.
Coryza with nosebleed.

UPPER FACE. [8]

Face pale, depressed appearance; weary, wants to lie down.

LOWER FACE. [9]

Lips: and gums pale; dry, feverish.

TEETH AND GUMS. [10]

Teeth tender and sensitive.

TASTE, SPEECH, TONGUE. [11]

Tongue slightly coated; catarrhal fever.

INNER MOUTH. [12]

Mouth and fauces dry, hot. ~ Catarrh.

PALATE AND THROAT. [13]

Tightness in throat, wants to swallow; fauces dry.

HICCOUGH, BELCHING, NAUSEA AND VOMITING. [16]

Eructations of sour gas and ingesta.
Nausea on rising; morning sickness of pregnancy.
Nausea from renal derangements.

HYPOCHONDRIA. [18]

Stitches in hypochondria; sharp cutting in diaphragm; epigastrium.

ABDOMEN AND LOINS. [19]

Pains centre about navel, spreading thence in all directions; amel. by stool; griping pains amel. bending forward.
Rumbling of wind.
Catarrh of bowels, rumbling colic and watery stools.
Abdomen much enlarged and very tense; lower limbs edematous; urine scanty, high-colored, not more than eight ounces a day; pain in lumbar region and in ovaries; constipation; cervix uteri congested; albuminous leucorrhea; sense of weight in uterine region. ~ Ascites.

STOOLS AND RECTUM. [20]

Stool, thin, watery, bloody; with tenesmus and colic; catarrhal dysentery; evening.
Stool copious, with great debility and prostration; flatulence; morning.
Stool in hard lumps mixed with yellow mucus.

URINARY ORGANS. [21]

Slight pains in region of kidneys.
Congestion and inflammation of kidneys.
Attacks of renal inflammation, attacking particularly right kidney, causing intense pain, fever and great prostration; on one occasion suffering intense and bladder seemed implicated; great pain on passing urine, causing him to cry out; constipation; urine reddish, very hot, and acrid; dull headache; dryness of mouth and throat; chilliness, fever and perspiration.
Severe renal inflammation with fever, chilliness and pain in lumbar region, particularly in left kidney; quantity of urine below normal; urine red, depositing a brickdust sediment; considerable arterial excitement; skin hot and dry; motion caused him to cry out with pain; constipation.
Intense pain over right kidney, severe pain during urination, urine red, hot, acrid; bowels constipated.
Renal dropsy.
Ascites and edema of lower extremities in a young woman.
Inflammation of kidneys and ureters after passage of gravel.
Tenesmus of bladder; smarting in urethra, dropsy.
Increased urinary secretion; followed by acute inflammation.
Haematuria; renal pain with nausea.
Tenesmus of bladder, with heat and urging.
Urging to urinate following chilliness.
Uncomfortable heat in neck of bladder.
Irritation of bladder in children, preceded by heat in head and headache.
Renal colic with or without nausea.
Chronic inflammation of neck of bladder with bloody urine and tenesmus of bladder.
Chronic inflammation of kidneys.
Dysuria: of women and children evidently of catarrhal origin; mucous sediment in urine; with uterine displacement.
Smarting in fossa navicularis before urination.

MALE SEXUAL ORGANS. [22]

Lascivious dreams, emissions.
Prostate gland enlarged, feels hard and swollen to touch.
Dull heavy pain in spermatic cord, moving along cord to testicle.
Gonorrhea, gleet.
Chronic prostatitis.

FEMALE SEXUAL ORGANS. [23]

Menses, every three weeks, very profuse, lasting eight or nine days, accompanied by severe cutting pains in region of sacrum, hypogastrium and groins; she was pale, weak and nervous and had a slight cough, generally at night; after an abortion.
Menses premature and profuse or retarded and scanty.
Dysmenorrhea with urinary symptoms; cutting in sacral and hypogastric regions; flow scanty or profuse or irregular; pale, weak, anemic; strumous; hacking cough at night.
Amenorrhea: from a cold; nervous irritability, lassitude, dropsy; wandering pains in back and shoulders; sensation of a ball rising from stomach into throat; costive; in young girls with dropsical conditions.
Symptoms as if menses would appear, but they fail; nervous, excitable, sleepless; loss of appetite.
Suppression of menses from a cold; after venesection.
Menstrual irregularities in consumptive patients.
Leucorrhea: preceded by headache, sleeplessness and irritable bladder; in little girls, preceded by headache and sleeplessness.
Chlorosis, in scrofulous girls, with dropsy.

VOICE AND LARYNX. TRACHEA AND BRONCHIA. [25]

Hawking of tough, white mucus.

RESPIRATION. [26]

Respiration as if greatly fatigued.
Labored breathing from mucous accumulation.

COUGH. [27]

Hacking night cough.
Mucous rattling with suppressed cough.
Great debility; loss of appetite; flashes of heat during day; redness of cheeks in afternoon; occasional night sweats; menses very irregular for a year, have now been absent two months; six weeks ago had caught cold, cough, at first dry then loose with copious expectoration of yellowish, thick, sweet mucus, often streaked with blood, with sensation of rawness and soreness in chest; paroxysms of coughing were quite severe and exhausting.
Palliated cough and bloody sputa in a woman far gone with consumption and brought back menses which were absent four months.
Cough with bloody expectoration.

INNER CHEST AND LUNGS. [28]

Catarrh of lungs; loose cough and copious mucous expectoration.
Haemoptysis; great emaciation; dry, hacking cough; hectic flush; sleeplessness.
Haemoptysis after venesection or suppressed menses.
Chronic hemorrhage from lungs with dry, hacking cough, hectic fever, emaciation, sleeplessness.
Incipient phthisis, attended with fatiguing cough, result of obstructed menses; increased bronchial secretion; loose mucous cough, rattling in chest, labored respiration.
Phthisis, with obstructed menses; bloody or copious mucous sputa.

NECK AND BACK. [31]

Pain in back and loins.
Sharp, lancinating pains in lumbar region.
Dull pain in left lumbar region.
Severe pain in small of back, in morning.
Cutting pains in region of sacrum, hypogastrium and groins, with too early or too profuse menses; she is pale, weak and nervous and has a slight cough at night.
Wandering pains in back and shoulders; pain in joints.

LOWER LIMBS. [33]

Lower limbs weary.

LIMBS IN GENERAL. [34]

Sharp stitches here and there; rheumatic pains in joints.
Edema.

NERVES. [36]

Nervousness, sleeplessness and hysterical mood.
Much lassitude and great nervousness.
Hysteria.
Wants to lie down; pale.
Slight exertion produces syncope.

SLEEP. [37]

Great sleeplessness, with vivid, unpleasant dreams.
Sleeplessness: of women suffering from uterine irritation, prolapsus and its attendant nervousness (it is the Coffea of women); during climacteric period.
At night sleepless, nervous, hysterical; by day drowsy, languid.
Dreams mostly of an intellectual character; memory very active.

TIME. [38]

Morning: flatulence; severe pain in small of back; sweat toward.
Forenoon: chilly.
During day: flashes of heat; drowsy, languid; frequent desire to urinate.
Afternoon: redness of cheeks.
Evening: forehead sweaty; stools.
Night: cough; occasional sweats; sleepless; frequent desire to urinate.

TEMPERATURE AND WEATHER. [39]

Sensitive to open air; tendency to catarrhs.
Open air: walking in, dizziness; lachrymation.

FEVER. [40]

Chilly forenoon as after taking cold; followed by heat and sweat in evening with moderate thirst.
Chilliness followed by urging to urinate.
Sweat toward morning; catarrh.
Hectic fever.

ATTACKS, PERIODICITY. [41]

Alternate: low spirits and cheerful mood; urine profuse and watery or dark colored and scanty.
Every three weeks: menses.

LOCALITY AND DIRECTION. [42]

Left: lancinating in temple and eye; pain in lumbar region.
Right: inflammation of kidney; intense pain over kidney.
From within outward: pain in forehead; pain in eye.

SENSATIONS. [43]

As of a ball rising from stomach to throat; as of a wave from occiput to sinciput; as if he would pitch forward; respiration as if greatly fatigued.
Pains: centre about navel; in lumbar region and ovaries; in region of kidneys; in back and loins; in joints.
Intense pain: in right kidney; over right kidney.
Severe pain: in small of back.
Sharp pains: in left eye.
Sharp, lancinating pains: in left temple, upper part of left eye and inside of lower jaw; in lumbar region.
Sharp cutting: in diaphragm; in region of sacrum, hypogastrium and groins.
Sharp, shooting pains: over and in eyes.
Sharp, stitching pain: in forehead.
Stitches: in hypochondria; in epigastrium; here and there in limbs.
Griping pains: in abdomen.
Rheumatic pains: in joints.
Wandering pains: in back and shoulders.
Dull pain: in left lumbar region.
Dull, stupefying pain: in head.
Smarting: in urethra; in fossa navicularis.
Soreness: of chest.
Rawness: of chest.
Burning: in nostrils.
Sensitiveness: of teeth.
Heat: in neck of bladder; in head.
Tightness: in throat.
Fullness: in head; in nostrils.
Dryness: of nose; of mouth and fauces.
Weariness: of lower limbs.

TISSUES. [44]

Catarrhal affections of mucous membranes.
Face bloated, abdomen enlarged, feet edematous; urine alternately profuse and watery or dark-colored and scanty; frequent desire to urinate day and night. ~ Dropsy.
Hemorrhages from uterus, kidneys, bowels, lungs, etc.
Dropsy from anemia; ascites and edema of lower limbs in a young woman.
Anemia.

STAGE OF LIFE, CONSTITUTION. [47]

Women and little girls of nervous temperament.
Lady, mother of one child, had an abortion three years ago, another (at second month) four months ago; dysmenorrhea.
Mrs. H., aet. 30, lymphatic temperament, suffering six years; inflammation of neck of bladder.
Woman, aet. 30; dropsy.
Woman, aet. 40, passing through climacteric period; cough.
Merchant, aet. 45, nervous temperament, inclined to be bilious; renal inflammation.
Woman, aet. 48; amenorrhea.
Man, aet. 50, nervo-sanguine temperament; attacks of renal inflammation.
