ASTACUS FLUVIATILIS

Astacus Fluviatilis.

Crawfish. Crustaceae.

Frequently made use of in olden times.

Tincture from the whole fish, prepared by C. Hg. in 1825, still had a fish smell in 1867, and produced symptoms.

Fully proved and introduced by Buchner, in 1842.

MIND. [1]

Melancholic mood.
Apprehensiveness with anxiety in chest.
Slight delirium, with nettlerash.

SENSORIUM. [2]

Giddiness.
Dullness in head.

INNER HEAD. [3]

Pressing and throbbing on small spots, particularly in right temple.
Pressing dullness in frontal region.
Headache with pressure towards eyes.
Stinging pain in temples.
Pressing stinging pain extends towards occiput, but mo in right temple and about ear.
Excessive pain caused by violent spasmodic sneezing.

OUTER HEAD. [4]

On head, neck and chest inflammation, with red spots filled with serum, gone after a sweat.
A thick, crusty eruption on scalp, with enlarged lymphatic glands.

SIGHT AND EYES. [5]

He sees colored spots when reading.
Dimness of vision.
Dilated pupils.
Motion of eyes is painful.
It pains him to turn his eyes; giddy; nervous; crawls all over his body.
Lachrymation.
Pressure in upper part of right eye.
Conjunctival vessels injected.
Yellow conjunctiva.

HEARING AND EARS. [6]

Sensation as if a foreign body obstructed passage of right ear, causing slight deafness.
Heat and redness of ears.
Outward pressing and stinging, particularly in right ear.

SMELL AND NOSE. [7]

Sneezing, with yawning and belching.
Nosebleed relieving attacks.
Slight coryza.

UPPER FACE. [8]

At intervals darting like lightning from temple to cheek.
Burning heat in face.
Face glowing and red with fever.
Erysipelas with nettlerash.

TEETH AND GUMS. [10]

Dull, drawing toothache, returning at intervals.
At intervals pain as if tooth was being torn out.
Toothache in whole right lower jaw, with cold feeling in an eyetooth.

TASTE, SPEECH, TONGUE. [11]

Pressing pain in tongue and pharynx.
Sweetish pappy taste after cough.

INNER MOUTH. [12]

Canker spots; scorbutus.

PALATE AND THROAT. [13]

A fishy taste in roof of mouth, later farther back and lower down; after smelling tincture.

EATING AND DRINKING. [15]

After eating: colicky pain below navel, he has to bend double.

HICCOUGH, BELCHING, NAUSEA AND VOMITING. [16]

Fishy taste, followed by nausea, spreading through chest.
Nausea with vomiting.
Empty eructations.

SCROBICULUM AND STOMACH. [17]

Fullness and pressure in stomach; burning in epigastrium. ~ Gastric and bilious troubles.

HYPOCHONDRIA. [18]

Very severe pain in region of duodenum.
Inflammation of liver followed by jaundice; hepatic region painful on pressure.
Pressure in region of spleen.

ABDOMEN AND LOINS. [19]

Colicky pain with tenesmus and prostration; relieved by sitting, agg. when walking.
Colicky pain around umbilicus with distension.

STOOLS AND RECTUM. [20]

Stools color of pipe-clay; pain in liver.
Diarrhea with vomiting and colicky pain.
Soft mucous stool with scraping in rectum.

URINARY ORGANS. [21]

Pain in kidneys; stinging in night; agg. when inhaling.
Fishy smelling urine.
Tearing stitching pain in region of right kidney; drawing in ureter.
Pressing in bladder and heavy feeling.
Urging, scanty discharge, burning during and after urination; reddish sediment.
Pale urine with acid reaction, containing a large quantity of albumen.

MALE SEXUAL ORGANS. [22]

Restless sleep from strong sexual excitement.
Averse to coition; diminished sexual power; scrotum relaxed.

PREGNANCY. PARTURITION. LACTATION. [24]

Jaundice of little children.

VOICE AND LARYNX. TRACHEA AND BRONCHIA. [25]

Tickling in chink of glottis or deeper, exciting cough; tenacious mucus in larynx and trachea.
Roughness and scraping in throat, necessitating hawking.

RESPIRATION. [26]

Dyspnea with anxiety and rattling of mucus.
Pressure and oppressed breathing in bronchia.

COUGH. [27]

Cough from tickling in larynx, agg. during day.
Sweetish expectoration.
Cough did not molest him while walking, in evening, but returned as soon as he sat down.
Frequent coughing without expectoration in the forenoon.
Cough agg. in afternoon; chest painful; expectoration of salivary and white mucus.
Light yellow expectoration.

INNER CHEST AND LUNGS. [28]

Congestion of lungs with dyspnea and blood-spitting.
Pricking under left nipple.

HEART, PULSE AND CIRCULATION. [29]

Pulse 50 in morning, later 80.

OUTER CHEST. [30]

Pressure on whole sternum.

NECK AND BACK. [31]

Pain below right shoulder in front.
Itching in nape of neck with flushed face.
Swelling of cervical glands with children and old people.
Jerking under left kidney.

UPPER LIMBS. [32]

Pressure and tension in axillae and deltoid muscles.
Trembling in arms when leaning on them.
Rheumatic pain in left arm.
Lassitude in arms, they pain when touched.
Pressure and heaviness in bends of elbows.
Jerking and drawing in left forearm.
Chilliness and trembling of arms.
Transitory tearing and stinging pain in left thumb, in morning.

LOWER LIMBS. [33]

Burning on anterior surface of left thigh.
Slight tension from knee down to foot.

REST. POSITION. MOTION. [35]

Sitting: colic amel.; cough agg.
Walking: colic agg.; cough better.
Motion: eyes painful.

NERVES. [36]

Lassitude and weariness, trembling and fatigue.
(OBS:) Paralysis.

SLEEP. [37]

Restless sleep, anxious or lewd dreams, skin hot, wakes in perspiration, particularly on lower part of body.

TIME. [38]

Morning: pain in thumb.
Forenoon: cough dry.
During day: cough agg.
Afternoon: cough agg.
Evening: chill over body.
Night: stinging in kidney.

TEMPERATURE AND WEATHER. [39]

Temperature increased in evening.
Sensitive to air, no matter how great the feeling of heat.
Inward chilliness, and sensitiveness to air; worse from uncovering.

FEVER. [40]

Nervous crawls all over body.
Chills, confusion of head, face red, swollen; eyelids tumefied; great prostration and slight delirium.
Violent fever with headache, glowing red face, inward chilliness and sensitiveness to air.
Chill over whole body, particularly sensible in arm pits; in evening.
Increase of temperature in evening and slight excitement of sensorium. ~ Sopor.
After overheating from exertion and taking cold, first stage of typhoid fever treated with Rhus and Bryon., got much agg., with nausealike fainting, fever heat, glowing face, inner chilliness and sensitiveness to air; after uncovering, greater, long-lasting chill.

LOCALITY AND DIRECTION. [42]

Right: pain in temple; pressure in eye; obstruction and stinging in ear; toothache lower jaw; pain below shoulder.
Left: pricking under nipple; jerking under kidney; pain in arm; in thumb; burning in thigh.

SENSATIONS. [43]

As of a foreign body in ear; as if teeth were being torn out.
Darting: like lightning from temple to cheek.
Jerking: under left kidney; in left forearm.
Stitching and tearing: in right kidney.
Stinging: in temples; in ears; in kidneys; in left thumb.
Pricking: under left nipple.
Burning: during urination; on thigh; in epigastrium.
Scraping: in rectum; in throat.
Pressing: on small spots in head; dullness in frontal region; towards eyes; stinging towards occiput, in right temple and about ear; in upper part of right eye; outward, in ears; in tongue and pharynx; in stomach; in spleen; in bladder; in bronchia; on sternum; in axillae and deltoid muscles; in bends of elbows.
Drawing: in ureter; in left forearm.
Dull drawing: in teeth.
Rheumatic pain: in left arm.
Colicky pain: around umbilicus.
Undefined pain: in head from sneezing; in right duodenum; in kidneys; in chest; below right shoulder.
Throbbing: in head.
Fullness: in stomach.
Heaviness: in bladder; in bends of elbows.
Tension: from knee to foot.
Crawls: over body.
Itching: in nape of neck: on various parts.
Tickling: in larynx.
Heat: of ears; in face.
Coldness: in eyetooth.

TISSUES. [44]

Tumors, if not too old.
Gout of drinking people.

TOUCH. PASSIVE MOTION. INJURIES. [45]

Pressure: hepatic region painful; pain in region of duodenum.
Passive motion: eyes painful.

SKIN. [46]

A violent attack of an eruption like nettlerash.
Itching on various parts of body.
Nettlerash over whole body.
Nettlerash with liver complaint.
Erysipelas, with fever, headache and increased sweat.

Jaundice of children.

RELATIONS. [48]

Antidote: Acon.
Compare: Apis (urinary symptoms, stinging pains, etc.); Rhus tox. (urticaria).
