BADIAGA

Badiaga.

Spongilla fluviatilis. Fresh Water Sponge.

Hahnemann, after having received this popular drug from Russia, used it and made some observations with it, but they have been withheld from our School by the widow. In 1834 it was triturated by Dr. C. Hg., after 1835 some mention made in our journals; in 1865, well proved by Dr. Lyman Bedford, and finally published by C. Hg., in the Hahnemannian Monthly, vol. ii, page 121, 1866.

MIND. [1]

After pleasurable emotions, palpitation of heart.
Mind generally clear, active in spite of headache.
Mistakes the days.

SENSORIUM. [2]

Dull, dizzy feeling.

INNER HEAD. [3]

Headache from 2 P. M. until 7 P. M., with slight aching in posterior portion of both eyeballs and in temples; agg. on moving eyes. ~ Whooping cough.
Frontal headache; agg. in temples, extends to back of left eyeball; agg. moving eyes.
Severe headache on top of head; agg. at night after sleeping and in morning; returning violently after breakfast.
Headache with inflamed eyes.

OUTER HEAD. [4]

Excess of dandruff; scalp sore to touch; tetter-like eruption on forehead, and dizzy feeling during forenoon.
Itching on scalp, with much dandruff like tetter; dryness of hair.

SIGHT AND EYES. [5]

Headache with aching in posterior parts of eyeballs, agg. on turning eyes. ~ Pertussis.
Eyeballs tender; felt even when closing lids firmly. ~ Pertussis.
First right eye, afterwards left inflamed, during afternoon.
Scrofulous ophthalmia; hardening of meibomian glands. ~ Headache.
Severe intermittent pain in posterior portion of right eyeball; afternoon next day, left.
Margins of lids bluish-purple; blue under eyes. ~ Pertussis.
Twitching of left eyelid.

HEARING AND EARS. [6]

Slight shocks in ears as of distant artillery; afternoon and evening. ~ Pertussis.

SMELL AND NOSE. [7]

Sneezing, fluent coryza, stoppage at times.
Sneezing with coryza, fluent, or thick and yellow; agg. left nostril. ~ Pertussis.
Coryza and cough.
Itching of left wing of nose.

UPPER FACE. [8]

Redness of face. ~ Catarrh.
Face pale, ashy or leaden. ~ Pertussis.
Left cheek and malar bone sore to touch.
Maxillary joint stiff.

TEETH AND GUMS. [10]

Drawing in a decayed back tooth.

TASTE, SPEECH, TONGUE. [11]

Bad taste in mouth, evening.

INNER MOUTH. [12]

Mouth and breath hot, feverish, with thirst for large quantities of water at a time. ~ Pertussis.
Mouth and tongue feel scalded.

PALATE AND THROAT. [13]

Hawks up masses of gluey, bloody mucus from throat, which is inflamed and sore; agg. swallowing solids.
Tonsils red, inflamed; agg. swallowing solids.

APPETITE, THIRST. DESIRES, AVERSIONS. [14]

Appetite good; thirst lessened; tongue as if scalded.
Appetite diminished; costive; urine high-colored.
Thirst for large quantities of water.

EATING AND DRINKING. [15]

After breakfast: headache.

SCROBICULUM AND STOMACH. [17]

Pressure in pit of stomach, nausea and rumbling. ~ Forerunner of cholera Asiatica.
Severe lancinating in pit of stomach, 8 A. M.; extends to vertebrae, right scapula, and at times to right side, resulting there in a pleuritic pain.

HYPOCHONDRIA. [18]

Lancinating pain with a bounding movement in region of liver.

ABDOMEN AND LOINS. [19]

Indurated inguinal glands.
Syphilitic bubo.

STOOLS AND RECTUM. [20]

Catarrh of bowels.
Constipation.
Hemorrhoids.

URINARY ORGANS. [21]

Sharp pain in right kidney; afternoon.
Urine high-colored, reddish.
Severe, sharp, lancinating pain, in and near orifice of urethra.

MALE SEXUAL ORGANS. [22]

Chancres suppressed by cautery or mercurial ointment, leaving elevated, discolored cicatrices; general cachectic appearance and rhagades here and there.
Syphilitic bubo, left groin, hard, unequal like scirrhus; violent burning stitches during night.
Buboes from different causes; shooting pains, if suppuration has not begun, curable by tincture in three days; if fluctuation is detected, 6 drops daily in water will cause absorption.
Syphilis of infants, whole convolutes of hard glandular swellings, buboes.

PREGNANCY. PARTURITION. LACTATION. [24]

Carcinoma mamma.

VOICE AND LARYNX. TRACHEA AND BRONCHIA. [25]

Catarrhal affections of throat.

RESPIRATION. [26]

With spasmodic cough, strangling, face turning dark. ~ Catarrh.
While lying in bed on right side, just becoming unconscious by sleep, severe oppressive suffocative attacks from suspended respiration; quick effort to prevent suffocation by changing position.
Breath hot and feverish.

COUGH. [27]

Occasional severe paroxysms of spasmodic cough, ejecting viscid mucus from bronchial tubes which at times comes flying forcibly out of mouth; more during afternoon and evening; caused by tickling in larynx as if sugar was dissolving; amel. in a warm room.
Cough causes sneezing; profuse coryza.
Whooping cough; all symptoms agg. afternoon and evening.
Catarrhal inflammation of air passages, with fever, thirst, red face, sneezing, lachrymation and spasmodic cough; during each paroxysm of coughing, crying, pressing hands to head, sometimes strangling, face turning dark and thick yellow mucus flying out of mouth and nostrils; cough loose A. M., tight P. M. and evening.

INNER CHEST AND LUNGS. [28]

Pain in upper part of right chest.
Severe, sharp, lancinating pain in right supraclavicular region in or near subclavian artery.
Sharp, lancinating pains in chest, agg. from motion and deep inspiration, with soreness of chest; agg. afternoon and evening. ~ Pertussis.
Severe stitches in sides, especially right, from 7th to 8th rib; agg. from least motion.
Lungs feel as if sinking down.
Pneumonia typhosa.

HEART, PULSE AND CIRCULATION. [29]

Tremulous, vibrating palpitation upon slightest emotion of mind. ~ Pertussis. ~ Heart disease, etc.
Lying on right side, heart is heard and felt to pulsate from chest up to neck.
At midnight, while in bed, vibrating palpitation of heart for a few minutes; after which, while lying on right side, sensation as if lower lobe of left lung was settling down 3 or 4 inches, or being collapsed; amel. by changing position.

NECK AND BACK. [31]

Neck very stiff, agg. flexing head.
Soreness, lameness with stitches in nape; agg. bending head back and forward.
Severe lancinating and stitches below scapulae, much agg. from throwing shoulders back and chest forward, or from any contortion of body.
Glandular swellings on left side of face, throat and neck, nearly as large as a hen's egg; some hard, some suppurating.
Severe pain in or near head of right scapula.
Painful drawing near spine to left, downward from shoulder blade.
Pain in front of upper part of right shoulder, afterwards in left shoulder and arms.
Severe lancinating pains and stitches in posterior right side below scapula, much agg. from throwing shoulders back and chest forward, or any contortions of body; pain extorting at times a moan or shriek.
Pain in small of back, hips and lower limbs.

UPPER LIMBS. [32]

Pain in front of upper part of right shoulder, afterwards in left shoulder and arm.
In scapula pain from pit of stomach.
Palms hot and dry.

LOWER LIMBS. [33]

Pain in hips.
Intermitting pain in muscles of lower posterior third part of leg, with a sore, clumsy, contracted, bruised feeling of anterior muscles of lower third, agg. flexing foot and going up-stairs, when toes tend to drop down; must step higher with right foot; amel. remaining quiet at home.
Next day posterior parts not felt, but anterior of same leg worse; muscles sore as if beaten, and a contracted feeling, numb while sitting or lying.
Chilblains.
Lessened hard cellular swelling of both legs.
Hurts of horses' hoofs; bad ulcers on horses' feet.
Sharp stinging in posterior of right heel; agg. from least pressure.
Checked foot sweat (externally).
Toes bend while walking as if extensors were paralyzed.

REST. POSITION. MOTION. [35]

Rest: pain in muscles of leg better.
Lying in bed: palpitation; suffocation when lying on right side.
Throwing shoulders back and chest forward: pains below scapulae worse.
Sitting: palpitation; stitches in neck.
Sitting or lying: legs numb, soon feel sore, must change position.
Flexing head: stiff neck worse.
Changing position: suffocative attack amel.; palpitation better.
Motion: eyes and head agg.; pains in chest worse.
Walking: toes bend as if extensors were paralyzed.

SLEEP. [37]

Restless at night; must frequently change position, body feels so sore.
Awoke with frightful dreams and severe crampy pains in metatarsal bones of both feet; 3 to 4 A. M.
After sleep, head better.

TIME. [38]

From 3 to 4 A. M.: cramps in feet.
Morning: headache on vertex amel.; cough loose.
At 8 A. M.: pain in pit of stomach.
Forenoon: dizziness.
From 2 P. M. to 7 P. M.: headache.
Afternoon: eyes inflamed; shocks in ears as of distant artillery; pain in kidney; spasmodic cough agg.; cough tight; pains in chest worse.
Evening: shocks in ears; bad taste in mouth; spasmodic cough agg.; cough tight; pains in chest worse.
Night: headache on vertex amel.; restlessness.
Midnight: palpitation of heart.

TEMPERATURE AND WEATHER. [39]

Warm room: whooping cough better.
Sensitive to cold, especially cold air.
Worse in stormy weather.
Chilblains.

FEVER. [40]

Heat in forehead.
Fever and thirst. ~ Catarrh.
Feverish, hot breath and mouth.
Hot stitches in bubo.
Palms dry, hot.
Foot sweat checked.

LOCALITY AND DIRECTION. [42]

Right: pain in eyeball; pleuritic pain in side; pain in kidney; suffocation while lying on side; pain in upper chest; pain in supraclavicular region; pain in head of scapula; stinging of heel.
Left: headache extends to back of eyeball; twitching of eyelid; coryza left nostril agg.; itching wing of nose; cheek and malar bone sore; bubo in groin; glandular swellings on side of face and neck; pain in shoulder and arm.
Right to left: eyes inflamed; pain in shoulder; pleuritic pains; pain in knees.
Above downward: drawing in spine.
Posterior muscles of right leg one day, next day anterior.

SENSATIONS. [43]

Tongue as if scalded; lungs feel as if sinking down.
Sharp pain: in right kidney; near orifice of urethra.
Lancinating: in pit of stomach; in region of liver; near orifice of urethra; in right supraclavicular region; in chest; below scapulae; below right scapula.
Stitches: violent burning, in bubo; in sides; in nape; below scapulae; below right scapula.
Pleuritic pain: in right side.
Shooting: in buboes.
Stinging: in right heel.
Soreness: of chest; in nape; of thigh muscles.
Aching: in posterior portion of eyeballs and in temples.
Scalded feeling: of mouth and tongue.
Drawing: in decayed molar; near spine from left shoulder blade.
Pressure: in pit of stomach.
Bruised feeling: of thigh muscles.
Crampy pains: in feet.
Lameness: in nape.
Undefined pain: in upper right chest; in front of upper right shoulder; in left shoulder and arms; in small of back; in hips and lower limbs.
Tickling: in larynx.
Itching: of left wing of nose; on scalp.

TISSUES. [44]

Chronic rheumatism.
Catarrhal troubles.
Adenitis.
Scrofulosis.
Glands enlarged, indurated. ~ Scrofula. ~ Syphilitic buboes.
Induration of cellular tissues.

TOUCH. PASSIVE MOTION. INJURIES. [45]

Touch: scalp sore; malar bones sore; skin sore.
Least pressure: stinging in heel agg.
Swallowing solids: sore throat agg.; tonsils agg.
Lesions, pains and suggillations after concussion or contusion.

SKIN. [46]

Itching on scalp.
Skin sore to touch.
Elevated and discolored cicatrices.
Rhagades here and there.
Brown and blue spots in skin after concussions.
Causes checked eruptions to reappear (externally applied).

STAGE OF LIFE, CONSTITUTION. [47]

General cachectic appearance.
Scrofulous constitutions.
Fat children. ~ Whooping cough.

RELATIONS. [48]

Side relation: Spongia.
Cured a syphilitic bubo of left groin after Sulphur, Carb. an., Clemat., Silic., Iodium and Arsen. had failed.
Compare: Seneg. (cough caused by sneezing, opposite of 13); Spongia (cough, with much sneezing).
Similar to: Calc. sulph. (indurations); Carb. an. (indurations, buboes); Cist. can. (scrofula); Clemat., Hepar, Iodium, Kali hydr., Laches., Mercur., Merc. jod., Nitr. ac., Silic., Sulphur.
Complementary to: Sulphur, Iodium, and Mercur.
Laches. follows well.
