HYDROCOTYLE ASIATICA

Hydrocotyle Asiatica.

Indian Pennywort. Umbelliferae.

A small plant long known as an Indian remedy, growing in India and Southern Africa. First employed by Boileau in the treatment of leprosy.

Intense pain with some tumefaction in posterior portion of skull; occiput acutely sensitive, especially to touch.
Tinea favosa; painful constriction of posterior and superior integuments of skull; general lassitude and prostration.

SIGHT AND EYES. [5]

Tumors of lid, especially in epithelioma.

UPPER FACE. [8]

Copper colored eruption on face; large tubercle on right alae nasi, as large as sixpence, and covered with a thick crust, under which yellowish matter mixed with blood; edges of ulcer irregular and livid; five other tubercles, as large as lentils, near root of nose at both sides, and painless. ~ Lupus exedens.
Papular eruption on face.
Neuralgic affections of supra and infraorbital nerves.

Stomatitis aphthosa.
Syphilitic patches in mouth.

APPETITE, THIRST. DESIRES, AVERSIONS. [14]

Loathing of food.

HYPOCHONDRIA. [18]

Cirrhosis of liver; hypertrophy and induration of connective tissue; obstruction in whole hepatic region; slight pain in upper portion of liver; crampy pains in stomach, without nausea.

ABDOMEN AND LOINS. [19]

Flatulent colic.

Constipation.

MALE SEXUAL ORGANS. [22]

Acute and secondary gonorrhea.
Gonorrhea, which had been suppressed for fifteen years.

FEMALE SEXUAL ORGANS. [23]

Dull pain in region of ovary.
Pains in uterus, especially of left side.
Violent pains in uterus and neighborhood, like labor pains.
Uterus feels heavy.
Redness of os uteri and cervix.
Partly fungous, partly granular ulcer on upper lip of neck of uterus, with profuse leucorrhea.
Granular ulceration of entire neck of uterus, which is very red; prolapsus of uterus; profuse leucorrhea.
Menses too early.
Deep seated heat in vagina; shooting and itching in orifice.
Insupportable itching of vagina.
Heat and redness of vagina and vulva.
Profuse leucorrhea.

Alleviated the sufferings in stenosis of aorta.

Two small pustules on chest.

NECK AND BACK. [31]

Swelling of lymphatic vessels of neck.
On lower third of inner surface of left loin a large oval patch, about four and three-fourths inches in length, covered with a powder resembling pulverized chalk; the edges of a yellowish color; small eruption having the appearance of millet.

LOWER LIMBS. [33]

Yellowish spots on legs.
Insupportable itching of soles of feet.
Back of right foot, over a space of two inches in diameter, was covered with small indurations, having a large thick crust, some grayish-white, others light yellow, the whole resting on a purple base. ~ Tuberculous, erythematic lupus.

NERVES. [36]

General weariness.
Depression, heaviness and dull feeling.
Bruised feeling in all the muscles.
Hyperemia of nervous centres.
Acts especially upon nervus trigeminus.

LOCALITY AND DIRECTION. [42]

Right: large tubercle on alae nasi; back of foot covered with small indurations.
Left: pains in side of uterus.

SENSATIONS. [43]

Pains: in uterus.
Intense pain: in posterior portion of skull.
Violent pains: in uterus and neighborhood.
Shooting: in orifice of vagina.
Crampy pains: in stomach.
Neuralgic affections: of supra and infraorbital nerves.
Gout: with very severe paroxysms.
Dull pain: in region of ovary.
Slight pain: in upper part of liver.
Painful constriction: of posterior and superior integuments of skull.
Acute sensitiveness: of occiput.
Bruised feeling: in all muscles.

Heavy feeling: of uterus.

Rheumatic disorders.
Gout with very severe paroxysms.
Gangrene in newly formed flap on little finger.

Touch: occiput acutely sensitive.

Intolerable itching in several places.
Pricking on different parts.
Erysipelatous redness.
Eczema.
Three spots, almost completely circular, with slightly raised, scaly edges.
Pemphigus benignus.
Lepra tuberculosa, especially in face, abdomen, thighs and genitals; in latter there was a large tubercle, secreting a reddish pus.
Arabian elephantiasis.

STAGE OF LIFE, CONSTITUTION. [47]

It had a beneficial effect in fifty-seven cases of leprosy treated by Boileau.
Boy, aet. 15; lupus, tuberculous and erythematic, on right foot and left loin.
Man, aet. 16, has never suffered either from syphilis or scrofula, has lived for a long time in a damp dwelling, suffering about six months; lepra tuberculosa.
Young woman, aet. 20, delicate, weakly, during childhood suffered frequently from swelling of glands, mother has a copper colored eruption on face; suffered for eight years; lupus exedens of nose.
Man, aet. 22, after an operation; gangrene of flap.
Lady, aet. 30, suffering for two months; pruritus vagina.
Woman, aet. 34, childless, tolerably robust constitution, melancholic, skin yellow, has suffered much from grief; ulceration of cervix uteri.
Woman, aet. 40, melancholic temperament, mother of three children; affection of uterus.
Married woman, aet. 46, delicate, has had nine children, and much anxiety; ulcer on neck of uterus.
